WPL – Another good win

Halswell 3 – 9 Coastal Spirit

Another good win for the girls. Halswell had some good players and didn’t sit back to defend. They created a couple of chances in the first chance and got 3 goals in the second including one really nicely worked free kick from outside the area which involved a passing move around our wall.

However, our quality across the park was decisive over the 90 minutes. We scored 5 (plus one which was wrongly ruled out for off-side) in the first half and 4 in the second. The goals were spread among our front 3 of Mel, Cody and Arna (initial count says a hat-trick each!). Without itemising them all, 3 that stood out were:

After 10 minutes, Mel controlled well and played in to Arna who received with her back to goal on the edge of the penalty area. Her first touch opened up the goal and she slotted the ball into the bottom left with her second. 1 – 0.

After 24 minutes we had a combination of 6 passes or more among Emma, Olivia, Arna and Sophie high on the right flank which resulted in Arna having time and space to play in Cody, who finished first time. 2-0.

On 85 minutes Arna dribbled from left to right across the pitch around 25 – 30 metres out from goal and let fly with a shot that sailed over the stranded keeper into the net. 8 – 2.

The game was competitive for the full 90 minutes and we will be stronger for having had to work consistently throughout. At times our passing combinations were very good with the midfield and defence playing with good intent and concentration.

Player of The Day was Arna for her clinical display of finishing, and digger of the day was Olivia Smith who put in a lot of work in the middle.
