Southern League 2022

A new season begins on the weekend, away to a Christchurch United that has many familiar faces to Coastal Spirit supporters. Jose Matiz and his team will be hoping to get off to a positive start after a tricky preseason with all its disruptions.

Some words from Mainland Football article about this years competition format -

The eight teams that contested the SL last season (Cashmere Technical, Christchurch United, Coastal Spirit, Green Island, Nelson Suburbs, Otago University, Selwyn and South City Royals) were automatically granted a place in the league this season. However, Otago University did not meet the NZ Football Licence requirements, so Mosgiel AFC – known as The Plainsman, will replace them. Ferrymead Bays and Nomads, who finished in the top two in the promotion series, make up the ten teams. After the Caversham and Dunedin Technical merger was completed in the off-season, South City Royals have been renamed the Dunedin City Royals…

Round 1 matchups see Christchurch United hosting Coastal Spirit at the Christchurch Football Centre, Dunedin City Royals face Mosgiel at Logan Park, Ferrymead Park is the venue for Bays / Technical clash, with Nomads entertaining Selwyn at Tulett Park. All these games are kicking-off at 2:45 pm on Saturday. On Sunday at 11 am at Saxton Field, Suburbs take on Green Island.

With Community Football having a delayed start it would be great to see a strong turn out to the first game to help the team get off to a good start

See you there!
