U19 Tournament Cancelled

Adidas U19 Labour Weekend Tournament - We are really disappointed to announce that due to Covid Alert Level 2, we are unable to run this event.

Coastal Spirit have always been committed to hosting the 2021 U19 Tournament however we must do this within the Covid Level regulations. At Level 2 restrictions, the player participants alone would exceed our ability to limit gatherings to up to 100 people even by separating Linfield Park into zones and it would be impossible to restrict people from having contact between zones. We have therefore made the decision that we could only host the tournament at Level 1 in order to ensure the health and safety of all participants, officials and our volunteers.

The government has been clear in announcing that the rest of New Zealand would not go down a level until Auckland moved out of Level 3 and, with yesterday’s announcement that this is not now scheduled for review until 5 October, it seems unlikely that any changes would occur until after the school holidays at the earliest. We understand that teams are needing to arrange travel and also continue their preparations for the tournament however it’s unlikely that we’ll be able to confirm the tournament proceeding prior to the week before it is due to start.

Regrettably, we have therefore made the decision to cancel this year’s tournament. This decision hasn’t been made lightly and we believe that we have investigated all available options including hosting the tournament across multiple venues. We appreciate that this will be disappointing for players however we must operate within the guidelines provided.

We will be back stronger next year.
